Stuart Russell Obituary

Stuart Jay Russell was born on November 19, 1966, in Bremerton, Washington, to Jayvanis and Beverly Russell. He was the second of three children raised on Puget Drive in Port Orchard, alongside his siblings LeiLani and Darin.

Stuart attended South Colby and Manchester Elementary, John Sedgwick Junior High, and South Kitsap High School, later earning his diploma through American High School’s correspondence program. He went on to graduate from Clover Park Technical School’s Auto Mechanics Program — a path that perfectly matched his natural talents and lifelong interests.

From an early age, Stuart loved motorcycles and working on engines — interests he shared with and learned from his dad, Jay. Over the years, he became well known for both his mechanical skill and his willingness to help. If something had an engine and wasn’t running right, Stuart was the one people called, and more often than not, he could fix it.

He worked for K-2, Selden’s Furniture, Cable Craft, Erik Houge’s construction company, and others through the years. Wherever he worked, he brought strong hands, a sharp mechanical mind, and sincere dependability.

Stuart loved country music and classic early ’80s action-adventure shows like The Fall Guy and The Dukes of Hazzard. He enjoyed adventures with his buddies, was always ready to lend a hand, and loved reminiscing — telling stories from his youth or from jobs and experiences over the years. Those stories, told in his own way, will stay with all of us.

Stuart faced many health challenges throughout his life. In 2024, he was diagnosed with leukemia, and after a hard-fought battle, he passed away peacefully on the morning of February 1, 2026, in Tacoma, Washington.

Stuart never married or had children of his own, but his family and friends loved him deeply. He will be greatly missed by his siblings LeiLani and Darin; their spouses, Neal and Angie; his nieces and nephews — Ariel, Michaela, Skylar, Noah, Jayden, and Trenton — as well as his chosen family and lifelong friends, Erik and Wanda Houge, Carl and Tammy Ross, and many extended friends and loved ones too numerous to name.

Though Stuart may not have had children of his own, he leaves behind something just as meaningful — the friends he stood beside, the stories he shared, and the steady presence so many of us relied on. His hands may be at rest now, but the impact of his life will continue to run strong in all of us.
