John Morris Obituary
John (Jack) Morris was born in Tacoma, Washington, to Ollie Morris and Louise Croston. He graduated from Lincoln High School, served four years in the United States Air Force with two additional years in the reserves, and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Washington State University.
He dedicated more than 30 years to public service as the Director of Environmental Health for Lewis County and later as a Public Health Advisor for Thurston County. His work protected the health and safety of the communities he served.
For 38 years, he was married to the love of his life, Tammy Morris. Together, they raised horses and llamas on their farm and spent weekends supporting their children’s activities.
From a young age, Jack was drawn to the outdoors. He began hunting at six years old and grew into an accomplished hunter and fisherman. Over the years, he mentored many young people in gun safety and ethical practices. After retiring at a young age, he founded a gun shop where conversation and connection mattered just as much as craftsmanship.
In later years, he faced significant health challenges with quiet determination. He stayed engaged, joined activities, built friendships, and became widely known for his kindness.
Jack is survived by his wife, Tammy Morris; his son, Sean Morris (Shane); his daughter, Lyndsay Morris (Brian); his granddaughter, Saybrah Morris; his great-granddaughter, Venelope Cunningham; and his sister, Kathy Morris. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Morris and Louise Croston; his brother, Don Morris; and his daughter, Sheena Morris.
Jack will be remembered not for what he achieved, but for how he carried himself.
He smiled often.
He mentored generously.
He loved faithfully.
He lived life well.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Capital Place in Olympia, Washington at 2:00 p.m. on February 28, 2026.
