Kristi was a free spirit, wild child, and advocate for people who don’t fit the traditional mold. Kristi was born November 29, 1962 in Rapid City SD to Clare and Vernelle Armstrong, the third of five children. She grew up all over South Dakota due to her father’s career and ending up in Des Moines IA where she graduated from WDM Valley High School. She married John Shields in 1983, and had 2 children with him. In 2005 she moved back to her “heart’s home” in the Black Hills. Her adventurous spirit took her to Tumwater WA in 2024 to be closer to her daughter Felicia, and grandson Ben.
Kristi was preceded in death by Vernelle “Sam” (Ice) Armstrong (mother), and Charles “Chuck” Armstrong (brother). She is survived by Felicia Clevenger (daughter), Ben Frye (grandson), Ian Armstrong (son), Alex Armstrong (granddaughter), unknown Armstrong granddaughter, Clare Armstrong (Father), siblings Scott (Melanie) Armstrong, Keith (Debbie McCauley) Armstrong, Cynda (Alan) Wessel, SIL Terri Armstrong, Honorary brother James (Arlene) Holmes, 10 nieces & nephews, and many great-nieces & nephews.
She will be buried in the Rose Garden at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish by family in a small ceremony, date TBD.
