Matthew Thomas Hagman

May 9, 1966 – February 11, 2025

Tacoma resident Matthew Thomas Hagman passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. He was born on May 9, 1966, at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Washington—the day after Mother’s Day.

Matthew was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lawrence (Larry) and Evelyn (Evie) Hagman; his brother, John Joseph Hagman; and his nephews, Trevor Hagman and Christopher Derhak.

His three beloved children survive him: daughter Chantal Boettcher (David), son Alexander Hagman (Eloisa), and son Aaron Hagman. He took great pride in their educational achievements and career successes. He also took great pride in his grandchildren, Joseph (“Joey”) and Lauren. His siblings also survive Matthew: Christopher Hagman, Julie Derhak (Mike), Joanna Ewest (Timothy), Marcella Mayer (Ray), and Marc Hagman (Katrin). He leaves behind many nieces and nephews—Kaela, Haliee (Luke), Carrisa (Nick), Linnea, Annika, Sarah (David), Nathan, Duncan (Hope), Tucker (Jordan), Ben (Brielle), and Jonathan—as well as 19 great-nieces and nephews.

Matthew graduated from Puyallup High School in 1985, excelling in Graphic Arts and Auto Shop. Following in his grandfather's footsteps, Leif Hagman (Hagman Printers), his father, Larry Hagman, and his brother, Chris, Matthew worked as a printer for 25 years. Some print shops he worked at included Cascade Print Media, South Gate Press, R4 Printing Inc., Renton Printery Inc., The Mint, and Green River Community College.

A lifelong car and motorcycle enthusiast, Matthew loved his first car—a 1972 blue Pontiac Firebird with an Ozzy sticker. He grew up attending Bethany Baptist Church and remained a person of faith, reading the Bible and attending Bible study with friends from his apartment. He also had a passion for coffee and completed barista training through Goodwill Industries. Always eager to serve, he often made coffee for those in need near his home in South Tacoma.

The family would like to thank those who helped Matthew over the years, including medical professionals, his wife of 23 years, Tina; his good friend, Tim; his siblings, and children.

The family finds comfort in knowing he is free from pain and resting with the Lord.

In place of flowers please donate to the Tacoma Rescue Mission or the Brain Injury Association of America (biausa.org)
